What’s Janet Webb’s Philosophy?

I believe that every person, team, organisation and situation has a perfect way of functioning. This might not be true in practice but let’s work as if it is. Let’s try to find the best way of being. This might require us to explore the blocks that get in the way. But if we learn to let go of fear, then we can fly.

Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it. I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.

My role is to help people fly; to set the angel free and to help them become the person that God wanted them to be.

My natural bent is to look at things from a variety of perspectives:

  • to look behind to see what is tethering people to the spot
  • to explore what’s getting in the way
  • to give a wider set of perspectives
  • and therefore to help people get a different view

I started Janet Webb Consulting in 2012 but what was I doing before?

Having toured Europe and the Middle East for three years as a dancer, I came home to England needing a job; any job. Hence, I walked into Selfridges in Oxford Street and then I started the following week on a three month Christmas contract. I left seven years later, having worked my way up the store, both literally and figuratively. When I found myself in the Training Team, back then in 1992, I knew I had found a world that would satisfy me for the rest of my life.

Having done a number of roles I am now a skilled and experienced manager:

  • experience of managing a wide variety of teams
  • undertaking strategic reviews of services that I am familiar with (and some that I am not)
  • managing projects in a variety of industries
  • dealing with fast paced environments
  • working with the private, public and third sectors

I have been a Chartered Member of the CIPD since 2013. That means that I take my professionalism very seriously and I have the experience to back it up. And I am a Reader in the Anglican Church – Janet Webb, licenced to preach.

What Interests Janet Webb?

What interests me most is what makes people tick in the way that they do. How can one person be assertive and another aggressive in the same situation? Why is one person able to be creative and another not so? Why is it that one person can stand on stage in front of 200 people and present with confidence, whereas another person cringes at having to present to four people sitting around a table. How can the same life experience affect people in such different ways?

And this interest fuels my work and my curiosity.

How my slightly eccentric brain chews over things you can find here.
